Research & Describe the Subject of Gun Control in the U.S. (Research Paper Sample) Content: Gun ControlStudent NameInstructors NameDateGun ControlThe subject of gun control remains currently among the most controversial and the debates over it are mainly connected to the Second Amendment and the public policy issues surrounding this question. Thus, some see the Amendment as the guarantee of political freedom; others perceive it as the tool to ensure public safety and anti-crime measures (Cottrol, 1994). Ruled by the U.S. Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, the Second Amendment protected an individual right to own a gun, but not possess the handgun in the home mentioning thus the different types of valid gun laws (Webster, et al, 2014). The general understanding of the Second Amendment is that it gives the Americans right to own a gun, being at the same time the law that gives the right of that gun to militia and army depending on the Amendment interpretation (Viewcaps, 2013). The other meaningful characteristic of the Second Amendment is that it should be updated in the interpretation of its terms like militia which is no longer the encompassing shield for the Amendment. It is rather the opportunity for the billion dollar gun industry and the lobbyists to hide behind the ply of weapons (Sanghoee, 2014). One of the possible consequences of the Amendment to be changed for the sake of modern society is that the real protection of people will come under the new rules. So far while little scientific data exists on the gun violence and no single interpretation of the Second Amen...
